About Technology Tesseracts
One of my all-time favorite books is “A Wrinkle in Time” by Madeleine L’Engle, and I usually read it about once a year. I created this blog because I think of tesseracts as a unique metaphor for using Web 2.0 technology in education. I recommend reading the book first. After you’ve read it, hopefully you’ll understand that Web 2.0 can be a “wrinkle” or shortcut that we use to help us get from point A to point B. It is not a straight line, but something completely different.
I once heard Jim Gates (at the 2008 PSLA conference) say that no one does Web 2.0 to save time. Given the amount of time I spend in front of my computer on WordPress, Blogger, Facebook, and My Yahoo!, I think he’s exactly right. Sometimes I think teachers refuse to learn a new technology because it’s time-consuming. I believe, however, that though it is often more difficult than conventional methods, Web 2.0 technology is more efficient and effective when integrated properly in classroom instruction.
